Real Impact Stories

Seven-year-old Emmanuel was brought to Bethel, an orphanage in Zambia, in December 2017. His younger brother, Jeremiah, joined him in June 2019. Their mother struggled with severe emotional instability and lacked family support making it impossible for her to take care of the boys. She passed away in 2022.

Thanks to the Thrive Program, funds from donors enabled these boys to receive therapy, helping them transition both within and outside the orphanage. After some time, the social services team and the government’s Department of Social Services found a wonderful adoptive family for the boys.

Lorenzo was born in Chiapas, a city in southern Mexico, so he speaks the native language there and struggled to speak Spanish and couldn’t read or write well.

He  was abused before DIF (Mexican Social Services) moved him to Nuestra Familia. From the moment he joined the home, his caregivers have dedicated themselves to making him feel that he is important.

With donors support for education, he has improved his Spanish verbally and in his reading and writing. He is better able to connect with the children around him, and eagerly participates in all activities, especially soccer.

Rosita is a 12-year-old girl who lived at Casa Hogar for a few years before she was reunited with her family. Unfortunately, her biological mother was diagnosed with  cancer and passed away a few months after that.

Though she was able to say goodbye to her mother before she passed away, Rosita was heartbroken. Can you imagine just getting your family back, only to have them taken away again?

Children shouldn’t have to deal with traumatic experiences alone, and thanks to donations, Rosita had the chance to process her grief with a psychologist and handle the pain while she heals. Her psychologist, caregivers, and friends at the home are helping her adjust during this difficult time.
