Because of your donations, the orphanage now has:
Thousands of children live in real and raw misery just 681 miles away from the United States. They exist amid a scarcity of food, clean water, electricity, education, health care, safety and comfort. Kids in Haiti are vulnerable to violence, extreme poverty, and displacement. Water-borne diseases such as cholera and severe malnutrition shorten many young lives.
This tragic reality has inspired many people to try to change the situation for children in Haiti. One such person is Dovick Joseph, a man of hope.
Dovick grew up in poverty in a small Haitian village and managed to gain a sixth grade education. When he was 17, he was hired as a laborer for a group building an orphanage in his village. There he met a couple from Utah. They were so impressed with Dovick that they ended up supporting his further education. Dovick excelled through college and obtained a job in the government.
Over the next few years, Dovick’s desire to pay forward the kindness he received grew. He wanted to help kids like him. He eventually found an older Haitian woman who had taken in 25 orphans. As he got to know them, he grew to care for the children. When the woman became sick and could no longer take care of the children in the home, Dovick took over, even though there was no facility or resources to do so. When she asked Dovick how he was going to do this impossible task, Dovick replied: “God will put people in my way.”
The people came. A group from North Carolina found Dovick and his little band and provided resources. He reconnected with the Utah group who had hired him in his youth, and the miracle began.
Now, several years later, with donations from amazing people and lots of hard work, this orphanage is now home to 35 children. The home provides permanent housing, a healthy environment, nutritious food, and loving care. Recently, a beautiful new school was built, providing education to 350 students from the village.
Please join us to ensure that Dovick and his team of caretakers can continue to provide the miraculous care to these children.
