What is a Donor-Driven Initiative?
A Donor-Driven Initiative allows donors to partner with us to address critical needs they have observed in the orphan-care space. Donors are able to use A Child’s Hope Foundation as a fiscal sponsor and we, as a 501(c)(3) public charity, extend our tax-exempt status to select groups and/or projects engaged in activities aligned with our mission. This allows the designated group/project to ask for grants and tax-deductible donations under our tax-exempt status in order to pursue charitable work instead of creating a new nonprofit organization.
In a Donor-Driven Initiative agreement with A Child’s Hope, the foundation, as the sponsor, accepts grants and tax-deductible donations on behalf of the sponsored project/organization, such as a children’s home or identified project. The sponsor also accepts responsibility for the use of those funds, ensures their application toward charitable purposes, and observes any other donor restrictions. The IRS requires the sponsor to have “complete discretion and control” over the funds to guarantee charitable dollars do not merely pass through the 501(c)(3) charity to the project.
If a donor wishes to support a specific need identified in a home’s Improvement Roadmap that falls outside of the Strategic Initiative(s) funded through our programs, A Child’s Hope Foundation is pleased to assist. Donor-Driven Initiatives connected to an approved Improvement Roadmap will have all required paperwork and administrative fees waived. To initiate this type of project, please contact Madelyn at [email protected] rather than completing the form below.
