Your Donations Can Change A Child’s Future
With a monthly donation of $71, you can make a lasting impact on a child’s life. The Thrive Program from A Child’s Hope Foundation focuses on Child Advancement Priorities (CAP), helping orphans and vulnerable children in four crucial areas:
Your monthly contribution ensures these children receive essential care, significantly improving their future prospects. Let’s explore how each priority area makes a difference through real stories from real kids.
Overcoming Through Therapy
Therapy is a powerful tool for children to overcome past trauma and build resilience. It takes various forms, including psychological counseling and specialized therapies.
The transformation of eight-year-old Ava stands as a testament to the power of therapeutic intervention. When she first arrived at Esperanza, she was clouded by anxiety and the language barriers seemed insurmountable. But today, Ava’s story reads differently. Through speech therapy and psychological consultations, Ava has made remarkable progress. She’s now more socially comfortable, less anxious, and more engaged in learning. Ava can write her name independently and eagerly anticipates starting elementary school next year.
Funding for CAP makes this transformative care possible by covering the costs of professional therapists who help children process and heal.
Confidence Through Educational Support
Many children in institutional care need additional educational assistance (often due to a lack of prior schooling or barriers to future education). This additional care inspires a deeper level of confidence and hope for these kids.
Picture a young boy, unable to read or write in the local language, thrust into an unfamiliar world. This was Marco’s reality when he arrived in Baja from Chiapas, Mexico. His journey from linguistic isolation to academic engagement illustrates the vital importance of educational support.
One representative said, “Our dedicated caregivers taught him his rights as a child and supported his language learning. Now, Marco can read and write in Spanish, participates in various activities, and especially enjoys soccer. This educational foundation has opened up new opportunities for his future.”
CAP funding helps children in a variety of ways. While homes in Mexico usually use funding to provide specialized tutors, educational materials, or language support, homes in Africa generally use this money to pay school fees for children. Individualized attention and support gives children confidence and the opportunities they need to thrive academically.
Consistency Through Caregiver Support
Consistent, quality caregiving is crucial for children’s development. Many of our partner organizations invest in their caregivers through financial support and skills-based training. Sometimes, the most inspiring caregivers emerge from within home communities. Meet Elieth, whose journey came full circle at Casa de la Esperanza.
Elieth, a young woman who grew up in Casa de la Esperanza, returned as an adult to become a caregiver. She brings a unique perspective, engaging the children in crafts, games, homework, and dance. Her presence has had a positive impact, as she gives back the love and attention she received growing up in the home.
Through CAP funds, homes are able to offer reasonable salaries to attract and retain dedicated caregivers like Elieth, as well as receive ongoing training to enhance their skills and effectiveness in supporting the children.
Hope Through Family Placement
While providing excellent care is essential, the ultimate goal is to help children find stable, loving families. This process often involves family reunification. In a children’s home in Kenya, a story of hope recently unfolded. It began with a little girl named Evelyn, whose journey would touch not just her life but also that of her entire family.
In Kenya, Evelyn was brought to a children’s home after being abandoned. She required immediate medical attention for malnutrition and cerebral palsy. Following her recovery, the home’s staff worked tirelessly to improve her health. They also reached out to Evelyn’s mother, bringing her and Evelyn’s siblings into the home. Through therapy and support, Evelyn’s mother has learned to care for her independently. The entire family is now undergoing therapy as part of the reunification process.
Many children in institutional care, particularly in Africa and Mexico, are not truly orphans but have families facing various challenges. Social workers assess each situation, working towards family reunification when possible. This process provides hope and equips families with the tools necessary for successful futures.
CAP funding is crucial in this area, supporting the extensive social work required for family tracing, assessments, and reunification efforts, as well as providing resources for family therapy and support during the transition process. This means that more and more families are reunited each day, and more have hope for success.
