The Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON) is an organization that seeks to promote and protect the rights of vulnerable children across the country. They work with government organizations to raise the standard of care for children. We are collaborating with them to implement the Thrive Program in the homes in their network.
Ten children from Kingdom Kids Klub graduated from secondary school (high school) recently. All of these children grew up in the home and have been there since they were five to ten years old. Everyone’s story is different, with some children losing their primary caregivers and others coming to the home from neglect or abuse. Most of these children could not speak English when they arrived, and the few who could stopped going to school early on. Education was a luxury they couldn’t afford.
Many of the children were in the home for over five years, a duration that underscores the challenges and deficiencies in Nigeria’s care system. As the home celebrates this significant achievement, they continue to advocate for children in orphanages who need families and can transition successfully to a home environment with support from the government and community members.
Donors from A Child’s Hope Foundation have contributed to these graduates’ success by providing two computers and internet access, allowing them to conduct research and complete assignments. The home continues to focus on the impact of partnerships and gratitude for those who gave their children the invaluable gift of education.
